It’s one thing to know that we ought to obey, it’s quite another thing to have a heart for obedience. This prayer asks for a heart that longs to obey our Lord. Prayer
Holy Spirit, give me a heart to obey. I will work out my salvation and the teachings of Jesus in every aspect of my life. I will carry out this process knowing that I will have to give an account for my life and that You’re watching the decisions that I’m making. Though I take personal responsibility, I can’t take pride in any form of self-righteousness because it’s You that gives the desire to live holy. It’s also You that gives the power to obey those desires. So empower me to live an obedient life. You’re my provider. Provide the means for my obedience and commitment to You in Jesus name, amen.
Philippians 2:12-13
Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.
