This passage from Hosea, I use as a guide to pray for the backslidden church. There are people and whole churches that have known Jesus, passionately, but now their passion is dead. Use this prayer as a prayer guide to intercede for the backslidden church. Use it as a jumping board to ignite your own prayers of intercession. Our goal is to call the dead church back to life.

Prayer

Lord, I pray for Your backslidden church.  Have mercy! The law of sowing and reaping is as true for them as it is to a lost world.  Whoever sows to the wind, will reap a tornado, and this tornado will destroy whatever they have built. Don’t let life swallow them whole.  Have mercy on them!  They have totally traded their God-passion and replaced it with stuff-passion, pleasure-passion, political passion, religious passion, nation-building passion.  Passion! Passion! Passion!  Everyone is filled with passion. Passion of every kind, except God-passion.  They have forgotten their Maker.  Remind them of You.  Convince them to put You back in the top spot of their life before their passion consumes them and everything they have worked towards is turned to ashes.

Hosea 8:7-14

“They sow the wind and reap the whirlwind. The stalk has no head; it will produce no flour. Were it to yield grain, foreigners would swallow it up. Israel is swallowed up; now she is among the nations like something no one wants. For they have gone up to Assyria like a wild donkey wandering alone. Ephraim has sold herself to lovers. Although they have sold themselves among the nations, I will now gather them together. They will begin to waste away under the oppression of the mighty king. “Though Ephraim built many altars for sin offerings, these have become altars for sinning. I wrote for them the many things of my law, but they regarded them as something foreign. Though they offer sacrifices as gifts to me, and though they eat the meat, the Lord is not pleased with them. Now he will remember their wickedness and punish their sins: They will return to Egypt. Israel has forgotten their Maker and built palaces; Judah has fortified many towns. But I will send fire on their cities that will consume their fortresses.”

Most people don’t know where to start growing spiritually. I can assure you the starting point is prayer and Bible reading. Still most people don’t know how or where to start.  Royal Perspectives is a great place to start.  My desire is to connect people to God by connecting them to the scriptures and prayer.  When one prays the Bible, they pray the perfect will of God. Praying the scriptures consistently will produce spiritual growth.

As people pray the written prayers, they catch prayer in their spirit.  When this happens people discover the God that saved them.
