Billy Graham’s life was the gold standard for ministers in the realm of morality, ethics and integrity. Unfortunately, too many people who aspire to lead others spiritually fail to live up to their ideals or the standard God’s word establishes for them.  This common reality was no different in Hosea’s day. Hosea was grieved by the unrepentant sin that was present among the spiritual leaders of his day. I have used Hoses’s words to his contemporaries to form a prayer of intercession for the compromise that is so common place among spiritual leaders of today. Why don’t you join with me in intercession as we cry out for the leaders who have lost their way.

Prayer

Father, ignorance of You plagues our church leaders.  The people who are supposed to lead us are just as sinful as the lost. We can’t tell the difference between the leaders and the people.  They find relief in the people’s sin because it lowers the standard for them.  The people falter because there is no voice of moral authority in our leaders.  Lord, cause our church leaders to repent of their idolatry and sexual sin.  Give us holy leaders.  Revive them and the people will follow! Draw them to repentance in Your holy name we pray, amen.

Hosea 4:7-13

The more priests there were, the more they sinned against me; they exchanged their glorious God for something disgraceful. They feed on the sins of my people and relish their wickedness. And it will be: Like people, like priests.  I will punish both of them for their ways and repay them for their deeds. “They will eat but not have enough; they will engage in prostitution but not flourish because they have deserted the Lord  to give themselves to prostitution; old wine and new wine take away their understanding. My people consult a wooden idol, and a diviner’s rod speaks to them. A spirit of prostitution leads them astray; they are unfaithful to their God. They sacrifice on the mountaintops and burn offerings on the hills, under oak, poplar and terebinth, where the shade is pleasant. Therefore your daughters turn to prostitution and your daughters-in-law to adultery.
