Our God is the lion of the tribe of Judah. He is a hunter and he is fierce! Thankfully this hungry lion is seeking the lost and his wandering children. Join me in prayer as we pray for this lion to seek those who have lost their relationship with God, but have managed to keep up their religious performance. Let’s pray together as we call the lifeless church back to life!
Prayer
Father, forgive us; we are just going through the motions. Lifeless religion has us disengaged from Your presence and Your life. Repetitive activity that’s dull and monotonous has deceived us into thinking we are living above board with You. We’ve dumbed down Your standard; created a religion that’s not by Your design. We’re deceived into believing You’re happy with a token offering here and there and that a random sacrifice can appease You. Thankfully, You’ve attempted to get our attention. You’re making us hungry and thirsty; let us respond to You. When you touch our livelihood, let us repent. Make us hungry and thirsty for the bread of heaven, the rain of Your Spirit, and Your anointing on our lives. Father, have mercy on us. Don’t hand us over to the enemy to curse us and take us captive. Father send your Spirit to intervene. Let us meet You, not in judgement, but in the revelation of Your power. Visit us in such a way that our old dead religion is blown away by the revelation of who You are and the power of Your name. Father, we ask this in the all-powerful and totally compassionate name of Jesus, amen.
Amos 4:4-13
“Go to Bethel and sin; go to Gilgal and sin yet more. Bring your sacrifices every morning, your tithes every three years. Burn leavened bread as a thank offering and brag about your freewill offerings—boast about them, you Israelites, for this is what you love to do,” declares the Sovereign Lord. “I gave you empty stomachs in every city and lack of bread in every town, yet you have not returned to me,” declares the Lord. “I also withheld rain from you when the harvest was still three months away. I sent rain on one town, but withheld it from another. One field had rain; another had none and dried up. People staggered from town to town for water but did not get enough to drink, yet you have not returned to me,” declares the Lord. “Many times I struck your gardens and vineyards, destroying them with blight and mildew. Locusts devoured your fig and olive trees, yet you have not returned to me,” declares the Lord. “I sent plagues among you as I did to Egypt. I killed your young men with the sword, along with your captured horses. I filled your nostrils with the stench of your camps, yet you have not returned to me,” declares the Lord. “I overthrew some of you as I overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. You were like a burning stick snatched from the fire, yet you have not returned to me,” declares the Lord. “Therefore this is what I will do to you, Israel, and because I will do this to you, Israel, prepare to meet your God.” He who forms the mountains, who creates the wind, and who reveals his thoughts to mankind, who turns dawn to darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth— the Lord God Almighty is his name.”
