According to the United Nations, 54% of the world’s population lives in urban areas, and by 2050 it’s expected that two-thirds of the world’s population will live in cities. To read more about this, then click here.

This is an incredible opportunity for the church.  We need to pray that God will rock the major cities of the world.  An outpouring of the Holy Spirit that touches a major world city can change the course of history. Jonah, with all his sin and rebelliousness, is one of the few people in the Bible that saw an entire city shaken by the power of repentance.  If God did it then, he can do it now.  Join me as we pray for the major cities of the world.

Prayer

Father, Nineveh proves that citywide awakening is possible.  So Father I intercede for the great cities of the world.  I pray You will send them prophets and evangelists that are as effective as Jonah.  Prepare the cities of the world to turn to You in repentance, fasting and seek Your face.  Father, spread the fame of Jesus around the world and may the banner of Jesus be lifted above all the major cities of the world.  May these cities be the center of righteousness for their nations.  Lord, as the majority of the world’s populations now live in cities (United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, World Urbanization Prospects, the 2014 Revision), this gives us the opportunity for revival to spread faster around the world.  So set the cites of the the world ablaze for you, in Jesus name.  (You may want to pick out some of the major cites of the world and pray over them specifically.).

Jonah 3:5-10

The Ninevites believed God. A fast was proclaimed, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth. When Jonah’s warning reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust. This is the proclamation he issued in Nineveh: “By the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let people or animals, herds or flocks, taste anything; do not let them eat or drink. But let people and animals be covered with sackcloth. Let everyone call urgently on God. Let them give up their evil ways and their violence. Who knows? God may yet relent and with compassion turn from his fierce anger so that we will not perish.” When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he relented and did not bring on them the destruction he had threatened.
