Light reveals the world to us. John says, “God is light.” Thus, God reveals reality to us. John’s teaching that God is light is a huge theme in 1 John. As we allow God’s light to shine on us, the darkness is driven from our lives. Let’s prayer through 1 John 1:5-7 and let’s allow His light to shine on us. Be sure to read the prayer and passage below.
Prayer
Father, Light of the World, let the light of who You are drive the darkness out of me. Shine it in every crevice of my heart and in every closet of my mind. Remove darkness from my mind and heart. Shine Your light around me. Enable me to walk in Your light. I repent of the sin, darkness, and iniquity that has been embedded within me. Expose anything that would hold me back from You (Isaiah 58). I long to see who You really are! Let Your light illuminate Your face. Destroy every false image I have created of You in my mind. Annihilate the idol-images I’ve falsely created of You. I refuse to allow a dumbed-down image of You to produce low-level living within me. Shine Your light on every lie within me. Fill my mind, soul and spirit with Your illuminating presence. Cause Your sanctifying light to produce love in my life. I’m not talking about a theoretical love, but relational love that produces godly and healthy relationships with other believers. I pray this in the name of Jesus, the glorious One!
1 John 1:5-7
This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
