Introduction

Preaching is one of the most powerful forces on earth!  Yet it’s power is only as personally beneficial to us as we honor it.  We should ask the Holy Spirit to give us a love for the preached word of God. This would not only bolster our church attendance, but would transform our lives. Hosea pointed to the power of preaching.  Let’s learn the lesson he was teaching by praying his words.

Prayer

Lord, You use normal people.  People like Jacob who worked for his father-in-law to pay for his bride.  You use powerful people like Moses who was mighty in You as well as trained in royal courts within a palace. Let me learn from Israel who managed to have contempt for them both.  You use normal people to speak and You use powerful prophets.  Give me a humble heart so when the average Joe speaks Your word or the impressive and powerful prophet thunders Your commands I can receive it for what it is-the Word of God.

Hosea 12:12-14

Jacob fled to the country of Aram; Israel served to get a wife, and to pay for her he tended sheep. The Lord used a prophet to bring Israel up from Egypt, by a prophet he cared for him. But Ephraim has aroused his bitter anger; his Lord will leave on him the guilt of his bloodshed and will repay him for his contempt.
