Christians fortunately find themselves in positions of influence. The disciples of Jesus fill manifold leadership positions such as principals, CEO’s, presidents of companies, mayors, various governmental official positions, hospital and city administrators, etc. Because the demonic realm doesn’t want godly leadership in these positions, they stir up discontented people that seek to overthrow them from their positions of leadership. This is a Coup D’etat. Yet the Bible isn’t unfamiliar with this reality in life and speaks to us about this in Psalm 62. This prayer is crafted from these words and, if you are facing a Coup D’etat, now you have the language to pray even though you may be very emotional in the moment.
Prayer
Lord, I trust in Your protection. You’re a fortress that can’t be shaken. Your walls cannot be scaled. You’re the giver and protector of authority. I submit myself to Your will. In the midst of this coup that seeks to displace me, keep me at peace, protect my honor and secure my godly reputation. Father, I will empty my heart at Your feet! I’m pouring out my fear, anger and discouragement. I lay every emotion at Your feet! I certainly can’t trust in people. They’re no help. Money can’t provide security, especially stolen money. I have no favors to call in. You’re the righteous judge, but You’re also strong and loving. In light of who You are I ask that You’ll examine my righteous leadership, and if You see fit, secure and promote me in my place of authority. Lead me to the place I can prosper in Jesus name I pray, amen!
Psalms 62:1-12
Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. How long will you assault me? Would all of you throw me down— this leaning wall, this tottering fence? Surely they intend to topple me from my lofty place; they take delight in lies. With their mouths they bless, but in their hearts they curse. Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Surely the lowborn are but a breath, the highborn are but a lie. If weighed on a balance, they are nothing; together they are only a breath. Do not trust in extortion or put vain hope in stolen goods; though your riches increase, do not set your heart on them. One thing God has spoken, two things I have heard: “Power belongs to you, God, and with you, Lord, is unfailing love”; and, “You reward everyone according to what they have done.”
